Laser-assisted autofocus

Some devices come equipped with a built-in infrared laser emitter and receiver. When the user aims, the laser sends out pulses that bounce back from the targeted object. The processor calculates the time to the object and back, and then determines the distance. Laser AF is especially effective for shooting in low light.
