CCD

Charge-coupled device. One family of electronic image sensors that outputs an analog signal. In a camera, the CCD is a chip with a fixed arrangement of receptors that convert light into electrical current, which is then converted to digital data. The current output (and thus digital data output) is proportionate to the amount of light hitting each receptor.
